In December 2024, Martin Waddell was honoured with the Bob Hughes Lifetime Achievement Award at the Irish Book Awards. The first children’s author to receive this accolade, Martin delivered a touching speech that outlined the unique way he sought inspiration, and turned that inspiration into some of the most recognisable children’s books of the 20th century — all with his trademark wit, charm, and gravitas.
